Hurricane Ida Path

More than 40  people have been killed in El Salvador over the last week following three days of torrential rains caused by Hurricane Ida.

Government officials have stated that the death toll was expected to rise as rescue teams moved into areas that have been cut off by mudslides, Humberto Centeno, the country’s interior minister, said on Sunday.

A separate low pressure system may have also contributed to the rain, forecasters said.

News of the deaths came as the storm gathered strength off the coast of the Mexican resort city of Cancun on the Yucatan peninsula on Sunday

Weather forecasters in the US predicted the storm would head towards the US later this week, where the authorities have issued a hurricane watch for the US Gulf Coast.

“A hurricane watch is in effect from Grand Isle, Louisiana to the Mississippi/Alabama border. This watch does not include the city of New Orleans [Louisiana],” a statement from the US National Hurricane Centre said.

“A hurricane watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area … generally within 36 hours.”

Forecasters declared Ida a hurricane on Thursday as it passed off the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, bringing heavy rains and destroying homes.

The rains caused thousands of people to seek shelter out of the storm’s path.

The storm weakened into a tropical storm before reaching hurricane status again late on Saturday with sustained winds of near 145kph, US forecasters said.

Authorities said Ida could make landfall as early as Tuesday morning, although it was forecast to weaken by then. Officials and residents kept a close eye on the Category 2 hurricane as it approached, though there were no immediate plans for evacuations.

At 1 p.m. EST, Ida was located 510 miles south-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River and moving northwest near 10 mph. The latest forecast from the National Hurricane Center shows Ida brushing near Louisiana and Mississippi, then making landfall near Alabama before continuing across north Florida.

Yet many residents took the forecast in stride.

Here is a picture of the latest projected path.

Jahvid Best Injured

California tailback Jahvid Best suffered a concussion and was taken to the emergency room after he leapt into the air, flipped over a defender and lost consciousness after landing on the back of his head in the end zone.

Coach Jeff Tedford has confirmed that initial test have come back normal.
Best had movement in his extremities, spokesman Herb Benenson said. Benenson also stated that a preliminary evaluation showed Best had suffered concussion.

More tests will be completed before a final diagnosis willbe announced by the school. Tedford didn’t know whether Best would be kept in the hospital over night.
Best’s helmet came off on impact. He vaulted into the air over the Safety’s Cameron Collins on the 7-yard touchdown run.

Best’s jersey was removed and he was wearing an oxygen mask when carted out of the stadium. Benenson said Best was taken to an emergency room for observation and examination.
Best missed Tuesday and Wednesday’s practice sessions with a slight concussion sustained in the team’s 23-21 win at Arizona State last Saturday, but participated in full during Thursday’s workout. The concussion wasn’t diagnosed right away.

Here is a video i found of the incident, terrifying (or exciting) stuff!

daonolfix

There has been a nasty trojan floating around called daenol.

This virus modifies system processes in Windows XP or Vista and installs other malware parasites onto the infected computer. Normally Trojan.daonol spread via the following methods:

  1. infected codec updates
  2. unsolicited spam e-mails
  3. or corrupt program files.

Once inside the system, Trojan.daonol trojan will install corrupt executable files and diverse malware causing noticeably slow computer speed. It may also damage system files and steal sensitive data.

The common symptons of this virus are as follows.

  1. Strange task processes
  2. Corrupt dll’s and Windows files
  3. Annoying pop-up ads
  4. Restarts at Windows start-up
  5. Strange bandwidth use
  6. And preventing access to the following sites :
    • CA
    • Comodo
    • EST (Nod32)
    • Kapersky
    • Mcafee
    • Microsoft
    • Panda
    • SuperAntiSpyware
    • Symantec
    • Webroot (spy sweeper)

It also prevents access to sites with the following strings in the url:

  1. Adob
  2. bleepingcomputer
  3. clamav
  4. daonolfix
  5. mbam-cdn
  6. mcafee
  7. meikoemoes
  8. prevx

It may disable access to system programs such as regedit.exe and cmd.exe.

It may also redirect searches from google, yahoo and live search engines and the results modified so the searcher is redirected to malicious websites.

This virus is also quite difficult to get rid of as it somehow bypasses the normal antivirus programs deletion systems and reinstalls somewhere else on your PC.
Removal can be be a tricky process but there are ways to remove it safely without reinstalling your operating system.

This is a complicated and technical process which can be found at bleepingcomputer

you can also finsd more information at Microsoft.com

The best way to avoid these sort of problems is to use up to date virus programs such as KasperskySymantec or Trend Micro PCCillin

a good firewall and being careful of what websites you visit.
